Links Rule Over Content

Tell a Friend

You've probably heard the old phrase content is king you know?  My tests have shown this is B.S.

I know this article is not what you are probably used to hearing about blog marketing but it’s true.  I am not going to reveal the names of sites just to protect them as they are not my own sites.  Here is the secret: content isn't king, but one way links ARE!

I have taken it up. A new challenge. My client's pages could not go to the first page of Google. I went to work to get it done.

I went through those pages on the first page and really wondered how they were there.  All of the content was extremely poorly written as if someone with no or very limited English speaking and writing skills had attempted to write the article.  It is obvious that the work was not well written, unfortunately it is easy to tell that someone was using a content article spinning rewrite program to complete the task.

Most of these pages were also in some pretty competitive keywords, like 4 million competing sites and up so it was very clear and obvious to me the previous ‘seo’ guy didn’t know what he was doing or was extremely lazy.

My kindergartner could do this with the free article spinner we downloaded in a couple minutes from download com.

This site was such a mess, with problems ranging from the absence of a site map to faulty internal links, that I don't even know where to begin.

This is what seems to be clear from the results and that is if content was king then there is no way that Google should be showing those pages on the first page of any search.  So after this exhaustive research what conclusions can we draw?

The only thing you can look at causing these sites to rank was the mass amount of one-way links from other domains they had pointing to these individual pages on their site.  Next I examined the sites which were on later pages of Google, and I discovered that even though the non-English content was the same, there weren't any links.  So then I decided to take a look at the pages they couldn't get ranked and see what the problem was...it turned out to be too few incoming backlinks.

So I just copied the links from the other pages and in two weeks I was a hero in my clients eyes, due to the fact that they are now on the first page of Google for all the sites they hired my for initially.

I wanted to get fast results so I could prove to them I could handle getting quality links of power so that their sites would remain showing up with first page rankings.

You can probably guess I got a full-time Search engine optimization company blog marketing gig.  These guys weren't business idiots they just didn't know what they were doing from a search engine optimization standpoint. So go out and get lots of high quality links even if you content isn't that great.
